About us

Hello and welcome to ‘Black Tide Lures’, based in the UK, fuelled by my passion for the ocean, fishing and things alike.

A bit about Black Tide Lures…

My story begins with some of my earliest memories, fishing outside of Poole Harbour in Dorset (UK) with my father, who would take me out on our Poole canoes that he and my grandad had lovingly built locally in our garden.

Those trips were magical for me, namely the spearfishing trips… at 10 years old, I would usually wait in the boat fishing whilst my father would be in the water with his speargun, stalking large bass and flat fish etc. The suspense I experienced whilst waiting for him to return to the boat with a fish was overwhelming,.. I’d watch in awe as he’d flop a big stringer of fish over the gunwales and onto the deck, generally consisting of 8 - 12lb bass and thick flatfish. From then on, I was hooked…

By the time I was 15, I had began working as a deck hand with local charter boat fishermen, a role I embraced for the next decade. Those years were invaluable, as I absorbed a vast amount of knowledge passed down through generations - I learned the intricacies of serious fishing, and skippering vessels in some of the toughest sea conditions.

As my passion for spearfishing and freediving grew stronger, I eventually left the charter fishing scene and pursued my AIDA 3 freediving qualification. There’s a profound beauty in being at one with the ocean, descending to the seabed at 10 to 20 meters, surrounded by a shoal of bass, and simply laying among them on a single breath. It’s in those moments that you realise the importance of taking only what you need, with a method that is both selective and sustainable.

Through freediving, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of fish by observing them in their natural habitat, and this knowledge has only deepened my respect for these creatures, and while I still take what I need for the dinner table, my approach to the sport has evolved with a commitment to better sustainability.

To conclude, after years of working in the marine engineering industry and honing my skills, I decided to merge my love for fishing with my engineering knowledge.

This led me to create a mix of realistic, precision-engineered and locally hand crafted fishing lures, designed with the knowledge in mind I've gained over the years on the sea.

I can assure you that our lures will assist you in catching serious predatory fish, all while promoting a more respectful and sustainable approach to fishing.

Thanks for visiting, and tight lines - Scott.
